Dutch Oven Cooking 201, a class
for all those interested in taking up this
nearly-lost art of frontier cooking, was
hosted by the Grant County Extension Service
on February 27 in Silver City.
Leah Jones, expert Dutch Oven cook and Champion
of Glenwood's First Cook-Off, demonstrated
the essentials of "black pot" cooking,
and cooked a chicken "one pot wonder," cheese-stuffed
bacon-wrapped chicken breasts, sour cream
and chive biscuits, and a buttermilk pie.
The group of almost 30 enthusiastic folks
learned a lot, and best of all, got to taste
everything, too!
Other members of the committee
for this year's Glenwood Dutch Oven Cook-Off
(on March 26) were also on hand to make the
fires, watch the pots, and relate their experiences
and knowledge about Dutch Oven cooking. Thanks
to Mickey and Rawlings Lemon, Judy and John
O'Loughlin, Linda Locklar for sharing their
stories and tips!
It was a fun midday event, and hopefully
inspired many of those attending to come
cook with us this year in Glenwood!
